July 16 – August
14, 2018 – “The London 15” – OBU Student Abroad in London, England
This summer, I had the privilege of spending a month
in England with a group of 15 students from Oklahoma Baptist University. Dr. Lindsey Panxhi (an English faculty
colleague) and myself, along with our respective spouses, conducted a
faculty-led Study Abroad that spent four weeks on the ground in London teaching
OBU courses to OBU students while being immersed in the culture and history of
Great Britain. These are our stories!
Sunday, July 29
– London Tom & GraceLife Church
Saydi’s birthday!
At supper we sang Happy Birthday and gave her birthday cupcakes.
The weather finally
broke this weekend. Friday was still
brutally hot, but it rained a bit around supper and cooled off a bit
overnight. Yesterday it “only” went up
to 85, but cooler weather blew in overnight, and we woke up to rain this
morning – a welcome relief. On the
downside, we got drenched walking to church.
We made the 25-minute trek to “London” Tom Drion’s
church, Grace Life Church. The service
was great, though long (a full two hours) – a guest preacher was John Kim, a
Korean-American from Los Angeles. The
leadership at Tom’s church was once again multi-ethnic – the worship team was
all black, and one of the three pastors is also African. Good service!
After church we went across the street to a Waitrose
Supermarket to pick up lunch. As it
happens, the store is closing for renovations, so they had some really good
clearance deals. Bought more than we
intended to, then headed home for a late (2:30) lunch.
Vanessa napped for most of the afternoon, while I read
for class prep. A good Lord’s Day,
including lots of FaceTime with the kids.
